While we're clearing the air on some issues last week, I want to share with you one more experience and I promise there's a lesson in this one for you too.
During the Live Unreal Summit we had a vendor and several agents placing things on agents chairs or tables and while this is something that is quite common at real eatate conferences, there's a right way and a wrong way to do it.
To start, the right way is to get permission because at some events (not ours because I don't like all the clutter that that crap creates) people can actually pay to do "chair drops". Again, we don't do it but it is a thing.
Now, we've had people put things on chairs that say things like "for all your __________ (city name) referral needs" and while it annoys me and I think it's a waste of money because who's honestly going to refer someone from a chair drop, I have been somewhat loose with saying anything to anyone about it... until now.
As most of you know, we are broker agnostic and therefore we are VERY clear about recruiting during our events. I don't recruit to my company and you don't recruit to yours. Period.
Now, I'm no dummy.. do people go to dinner, get into relationship and later join that person's company? Yes, absolutely and there's no stopping that, I don't care what event you're at, however, what is NOT allowed are conversations about, propaganda about or any sort of social media marketing about recruiting to your company while in our spaces, while our event is going on so when I saw something on our attendees tables with a QR code to scan to learn about "all the reasons I left xyz brokerage", I had to say something...
I GOT NEWS FOR YOU... YOUR BROKERAGE IS NOT THE REASON WHY YOU'RE NOT MAKING THE MONEY YOU WANT... YOU ARE.
After I said it not only was there a round of applause but it felt like a big "thank you for saying it" vibe.. at least that's what I felt from the stage.
Aside from the lesson above in all caps... stop wasting time watching webinars, listening to people's stories about why they joined or why they left. Instead put that time into something that will actually make you productive.. I don't know... maybe sales coaching?
Okay I have one more lesson for you...
CHASING SOMEONE WHO IS ALSO CHASING A MAGIC PILL OR A SHINY OBJECT EVERY 3-5 YEARS WILL SET YOU BACK 1-2 YEARS EVERYTIME YOU DO SO... WHY? BECAUSE EVERY TIME YOU MAKE A MOVE YOU LOSE CREDIBILITY.
This includes credibility with your peers and your buyers/sellers. Seriously though... I know agents or leaders who are losing credibility by the minute because they can't make up their mind on what they want or can't stick to one thing long enough to see it through... do you know why they do that? Because it's not happening fast enough for them.
Following someone who isn't getting the result they want in the time they want will put you in the same damn position as they are in. Don't do it.
Okay enough with the incident reports, now let's go sell some real estate!
